Luotuopan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Central Henan-Hubei border region. The name Luotuopan Fm is derived from the Luotuopan Sandstone named by Wang Zejiu et al. in 1963. The typical section is situated in east Luotuopan east of Putaoyu village in Foguangyu of Yanshi County (Songshan Mt.), Henan Province.

Lithology and Thickness
The Luotuopan Formation is dominantly composed of medium-bedded conglomerate and pebbly coarse sandstone. The basal part of the Luotuopan Fm is brownish yellow medium-grained quartzose sandstone. The top part is yellowish gray medium-bedded, medium- to coarse-grained quartzose sandstone. The basal conglomerates bear well-rounded pebbles, and the top part contains siliceous lumps and bandings. It is a thickness of 42 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The basal part of the Luotuopan Formation rests disconformably on the underlying Puyu Fm
Upper contact
The top part is conformably overlain by the Heyao Fm (Hejiayao Fm).
Regional extent
Central Henan-Hubei border region. The Luotuopan Formation is mainly exposed in the north slope of Yuzhai Mt. to Songshan Mt., from Foguangyu of Yanshi County on the west, eastward to Shaolin Temple of Dengfeng County, then to Wuzhi Mt. area in the juncture of Dengfeng, Mixian and Gongyi counties.
